Mae C. Jemison is an American engineer, physician, and former NASA astronaut, who was the first African American woman to space by traveling aboard on the Endeavor. I made the space wings a russet color to represent her skin color, along with the year she first went to space. Kalpana Chawal was the first woman of Indian origin that was an American astronaut and engineer to fly to space. She was one of the seven crew members who died tragically on the Space Shuttle Columbia. I made sure to represent the fallen by having seven stars above the space shuttle.
